Our organic waste contributes to 17% of greenhouse gases emitted into Earths atmosphere. That may not seem like a whole lot, but when we compare this 17% to the 16% emission level back in 2017; it shows that we are not positively evolving in an area that can easily be improved.
By each of us doing our part, we can drastically help take some stress off the environment.
Many people ask me why is throwing away our food scraps such a huge deal.
Food in a bag, where it has little to no access to oxygen produces toxic gasses; more specifically, it produces a gas called methane. The challenge we face with methane production is that it does a great with absorbing heat. The more methane we produce, the hotter the planet gets; this is where we run into issues such as global warming.
The solution to decreasing the amount of organic material in landfills is to dispose of these materials in a compost bin or… a vermicompost bin!!
You’re probably thinking “what on Earth is a vermicompost bin?”. Vermicompost is the process of composting (the decomposition of organic materials) with worms. Thats right!! Here at Princess Gardens we specialized in the art of using worms to compost our organic materials.
The benefit of this process are many; but here are just a few.
- Keeps pounds of organic materials out of the landfills
- Lowers the production of greenhouse gases such as methane
- Creates a nutrient rich material that feeds and protects plants in your garden
Because we believe so strongly in waste diversion, we are here to support the needs of your family and/or business in any way we can.
If you are willing to adventure into the world of vermiculture we will educate you and your family on how to keep a healthy and productive bin.
If you’re not interested in having a personal worm bin; we make it easy for you to keep your organic waste out of landfills. Each week we collect your compostables; fruit and veggie scraps, egg shells, and leaves. You will be given a 5 gallon bucket + egg bag to collect these materials throughout the week. On your selected pick up day, leave your bin on your doorstep, we collect and leave a fresh new bin and bag for you to restart the process.
